Will the airport remain open during construction?
The airport will remain fully operational during project construction with minimal disruption impacts to passengers.
When will construction begin and how long will it take?
Construction begins June 2025 and will take approximately two years to complete. The grand opening of the expanded terminal is scheduled for early 2028. For more detailed phasing information and timelines, please visit the construction updates section on the Airport Terminal Expansion project page.
Will the project add more flights?
While we are always eager to add flights and expand the flight range, the decision to increase flight frequencies or add new routes is quite complex and ultimately made by the airlines. They evaluate a variety of factors, including passenger demand, route profitability, aircraft availability, and seasonal travel patterns. The expanded terminal will allow for faster flight turnover and increase the total number of gate available which provides infrastructure to support increased flight frequencies.
Whenever new routes or destinations are added, changes are announced on our website and social media channels, and shared via the local news. Be sure to follow us on Facebook to stay updated.

How much does the terminal expansion project cost and how is being funded?
The Redmond Municipal Airport terminal expansion isn’t just about adding gates and square footage – it’s an investment in the economic growth and long-term vitality of our region. This project supports hundreds of local jobs, drives tourism and business travel, and strengthens the infrastructure Central Oregon needs to thrive. The project is funded by the FAA, grants, airlines, and airport users — NOT local taxpayers.
The estimated project cost is $180 million, to be funding through:

- Federal Airport Improvement Program $20M
- Bipartisan Infrastructure Law $18M
- Federal Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act: Airport Terminals Program Funding $7M
- Full Faith & Credit Bonds, Dedicated by Airport Revenues (i.e. Parking) $90M
- Available Airport Cash Funds $35M
- Connect Oregon Grant Funding $10M
Airline partners serving the Airport pay rates & charges, with specific requirements dedicated to annual debt obligations related to portions of terminal and airfield infrastructure. Nonairline revenues, such as concessions, hanger and land leases, and parking fees, will be used to pay the remaining debt obligations for the terminal, with no county or local funds will be used to fund the project.
How is sustainability being incorporated into the terminal expansion project?
Sustainability is an important focus of the expansion with features like additional solar panels, energy efficient HVAC systems, and a design targeting LEED Silver certification.
