About the Program
The RDM Public Art Program is dedicated to curating an immersive art experience that celebrates Central Oregon’s landscapes, heritage, and culture. This opportunity is part of RDM’s $180 million terminal expansion, which adds 80,000 sq. ft. of new space, 71% more waiting area, and over 6,000 sq. ft. for concessions. The expansion includes seven new jet bridges, doubles seating capacity, and significant accessibility upgrades such as wider walkways, a new escalator and elevator, and a companion care restroom—all designed to create a modern, welcoming environment that reflects the region’s natural beauty and vibrant culture.

Project Highlights

  • Six designated art locations within the secure side of the terminal.
  • The total Program budget is $1,000,000 and will be divided between each of the six Project locations. Budgets for each Project will vary depending on scale, material, and installation complexity. Without any City obligation, anticipated Project commissions may range from $10,000 to $150,000.
  • Curatorial themes include: Currents of Connection, Rhythms of the Wild, and Stories of the Land.

Eligibility and Minimum Qualifications

  • Open to emerging and established artists and artist teams residing in the U.S., with preference for those connected to Central Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects of similar scale and complexity.
  • Proposed materials must be durable, safe, and appropriate for a high-traffic airport environment.

Commitment to Diversity

While no specific ACDBE participation goal has been set for this opportunity, the City of Redmond strongly encourages participation by BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and historically underrepresented artists. Cultural authenticity is a core value, and proposals should reflect respect and integrity in representing diverse traditions.
